HISTORY OF THE OL BASTARD

“Ol Bastard” gets its name from a type of file
made for doing 2nd or rough cuts on metal. It is
usually stamped on the file “mill bastard” or
“bastard”. This was first termed around 1677.

The “Ol Bastard” was developed after 20
years in the hardwood flooring business. I saw
numerous people split open their thumb trying
to sharpen a scraper blade…and most of the
others filing on the blade but never picking up
the skill of sharpening the blade.

After 20 years, I was unable to teach anyone how to sharpen a blade.

This “Ol Bastard” tool removes the thinking from the sharpening.

The “jig” holds the scraper blade via handle and bushing at a precise angle utilized for sharpening. No thinking needed, just pull blade across file. Scraping jobs that took hours can be done in minutes.
